We had an investor-packed event last night with 27 angels turning up to see the latest selection of entrepreneurs pitching their businesses. We had quite a few unexpected last minute attendees, with word getting round at the Investor Masterclass prior to the pitching event and many staying on after to see the cracking pitches we had lined up.
After a quick whip round to make sure everyone had a chair and a summary, it was exciting to see a packed room with people pitching 1 to 4, rather than our usual 1 to 2.
Businesses seeking funding included Fuel Station, who are also pitching on our crowdfunding platform and Seek & Adore who returned to us to pitch again for a further round of funding. On average each entrepreneur got interest from three angel investors, including two business owners who had four investors wishing to follow up with them, and one business owner who had six interested.

We’ve kicked off 2014 with a smashing pitching event where over 30 high net worth investors watched 10 nervous entrepreneurs pitch for their chance to secure business funding. There was an electric atmosphere as each entrepreneur pitched their business in just 4 minutes to a three investors, before moving round to the next table and pitching again to another small group of angel investors.
Three of the entrepreneurs did extremely well, Beer52 had 11 angel investors interested and went onto hit their £100k crowdfunding target within three days, bsixGroup went onto get interest from 10 angels and Flavourly had 15 angel investors interested and will be live on our crowdfunding platform soon, looking to raise £150k.
What made these three entrepreneurs so successful is that they had practiced their pitches and pitched their businesses in straightforward and simple terms.
Angels Den Founder & CEO, Bill Morrow said “They did the hard yards upfront making the rest look easy, they nailed the basic proposition which made it simple to ace the pitch. Now they look set to get funded and perhaps more importantly than that, can access the contacts and advice of experienced business people.”
The next London SpeedFunding event is on Wednesday 5th February and is free to attend for investors. Take a look at all our upcoming events.
Another successful London SpeedFunding event last night with an electric atmosphere bringing together 8 entrepreneurs pitching to 14 high-net-worth individuals.
Businesses seeking funding included home credit finance, commuter transportation vehicle, hand-hygiene products, an insurance price comparison website, saddle design business, birthing products and a reusable and recyclable packaging solution, with investments on offer ranging from £100k to £2M. What a selection! Investors were very impressed with the quality and on average each entrepreneur got interest from four Angels, including two business owners who had seven investors wishing to follow up with them.
As one entrepreneur said “I had 6 follow ups which is fantastic. I really enjoyed being there, so thank you.”
There was an exciting buzz during the networking after the pitches with investors and entrepreneurs engrossed in conversation. It took us a while to get everyone heading home!

Last night’s slightly smaller than normal SpeedFunding event in London was another great success, giving budding entrepreneurs and business owners the opportunity to pitch to a number of eager Angel investors.
As six entrepreneurs waited nervously to pitch to twelve wealthy Angels, there was an almost palpable sense of expectation in the air. Business plans at the ready, clutched like shields in front of them, each one of our intrepid business owners faced the Angel investors one by one.
Three minutes is all they had to cram sometimes years of planning and belief into an effective pitch to our Angels, who are itching to give away their money and sometimes their time and experience to the right businesses.
SpeedFunding is an intense experience for which we like to ensure we prepare our entrepreneurs for as much as possible. To ensure they are pitch perfect on the day each business owner joined us for our pitch school training session prior to the SpeedFunding event, to give them the confidence and expertise to present their pitch in the best possible way.
Luckily our Angel investors are not dragons or monsters, but are really a nice bunch whose only interest is to draw all the information they need from the person in front of them to determine whether the business has that special something that will convince them to part with their money.
Feedback from our Angels last night included… “Well planned, well organised and good time keeping”
“Variety of sectors, different specialisations and goals made each pitch interesting to listen to”
“Good event and interesting variety”
I’m happy to report that the evening resulted in 18 follow ups for the entrepreneurs, maintaining London’s SpeedFunding average of 3 interested Angel investors per entrepreneur. A great result!
Spots for our SpeedFunding events are limited and usually sell out long before each event, so if you would like to pitch to our Angel investors at our next event near you, you’d better be quick and zip over to our website at www.angelsden.com to find out more about how you can join us to get your business funded.

The first Midlands SpeedFunding™ event of the New Year took place in a wintry Nottingham last week. We had 3 fantastic businesses pitching to our angels. Event sponsors, Freeth Cartwright LLP, provided an excellent venue and helped ensure the event ran smoothly.
We had a couple of last minute no-shows but a big thank you goes to the event sponsor and to everyone that attended for a very enjoyable evening.
On the night, one businesses received registered interest from 5 investors, the second business received interest from 2 investors and the final business received interest from 3 investors!
Angels were asked what they liked about the event and feedback included…
“Quick & Easy. Straightforward speed-dating format that everyone is familiar with”
“Like meeting face to face”
“Investment ready business access”
“Interesting businesses, always happy to meet with entrepreneurs”
“Good opportunity to meet entrepreneurs”
All in all, a great night.
